It feels like we were celebrating New Years Eve just yesterday, but the time just keeps flying by and we’re now halfway through March. The days are getting longer and it’s time to indulge in some delicious seasonal produce.
If you’ve got loved ones coming round for Sunday lunch then why not treat them to some spring lamb? What better way to spend time with the family than sat around the dining room table digging into a delicious roast dinner.
Perhaps you could enjoy a tasty seafood special, with lobsters, mussels and cockles, which are at their best at the moment. Throw them in with some linguine and you’ve got a new favourite meal. Serve the dish with a chilled glass of white and it’ll be an evening to remember, whether you’re hosting a dinner party or a simple supper for two.
Feeling a bit more adventurous? Why not try seasonal foods from around the world? To bring a bit of Spain into your kitchen prepare a spicy dish with padrón peppers, or stock up on seasonal fruits like higos, which are popular throughout Spain and the Mediterranean.
Seasonal favourites for March
Now you have a few ideas in mind for what you can do with some of the seasonal food this March. Let’s have a quick roundup on the individual ingredients that are in season:
- Spring lamb
- Bramley apples
Buying seasonal produce is not only great for your palate, it’s good for your bank balance; food that is in season is usually cheaper than forced or imported varieties, and you can enjoy shopping from farmer’s markets and supporting the local economy.
