What not to do on Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is the holiday of love; a time in which to celebrate the one you love and show them just how much they mean to you. The problem with this is that for some people it can feel like there is a lot of pressure to do something spectacular. A lot of pressure.

From forgetting to buy a card, to buying a terrible gift, or, on the other end of the scale, being single and not having anyone to spend it with, Valentine’s Day can be very stressful. But it doesn’t have to be. If you’re on top of some of these Valentine’s no-nos then the chances of having a successful, love-filled day are much higher.

Don’t forget it

If you’re in a relationship, and you’re not a couple that boycotts Valentine’s Day all together, then forgetting the date is a massive mistake. Nothing is worse than being woken up by your loved one presenting you with gifts, chocolates, or a giant card and realising that you have nothing to give them in return. It’s very difficult to recover from this one.

Don’t buy a risky gift

Firstly, well done for remembering that you need to buy a gift. Secondly, be careful about what it is. Clothes are risky if you’re not 100% sure of the correct size, as is anything even vaguely related to kitchen appliances. Avoid teddy bears or giant heart shaped-things where possible; try to be a bit more original and thoughtful, taking into account what their favourite things are. Hampers can be a great way to treat a special someone to a truly unique gift that can be tailored to what they like. Check out our range of Valentine’s Day hampers for some inspiration.

Don’t spend it alone

If you’re not in a relationship this Valentine’s Day then don’t fret – this doesn’t mean that you have to miss out on the lovefest all together. Plan something super nice for yourself to do as a treat, or make plans with friends to see a film, go for a delicious meal or have a pamper night at home with plenty of chilled prosecco. After all, love can come from friends, family or even yourself!

Don’t get overwhelmed

Although many view Valentine’s Day as a bit of a stressful holiday it really doesn’t have to be, and you’re in control of this. Avoid getting overwhelmed by trying to remember that at its core this is a day that’s just about celebrating loving and being loved, and what can be bad about that?

“Please could you pass on my thanks to those concerned, for the super Food Hamper I received yesterday. It was such a lovely gift and contained such a lovely selection of Christmas goodies, which I and my family will certainly enjoy over the Christmas period.”
