Halloween is a great time of year, and is always plenty of fun for all the family! Dressing up, going out with friends, and of course trick or treating! But if you’re vegan, the spooky Halloween “treats” can be a bit more difficult to come by, and the excitement of the day can be lost altogether! Well, we feel that it's about time that changed! So we have put together a few vegan sweet and savoury snacks that are bound to scare the life out of anyone!
Snappy Apple Bites
Whether you are a creative person or not, these have to be one of the easiest Halloween treats of all time - not to mention delicious! These apple bits are not only a healthy alternative to sweets but are the perfect way to fill yourself up before a jam-packed evening of door hopping, trick or treating.
Simply slice an apple into equal sections, (be careful not to cut yourself), then carve out the mouth shape, you can fill the mouth with your chosen mix. We suggest strawberry slices for the tongues, split peanuts or even pumpkin seeds for the teeth and peanut butter to keep it all in place. Add a couple of eyes to finish and enjoy! They are a great snack to prepare with the kids and can be customised in any way you choose!
Bonkers, Banana Monster Pops
Get ready to go bananas for these ones! Okay, all joking aside - these are a great addition to any Halloween banquet, very quick and simple to prepare. All you need is some vegan/dark chocolate, some grated coconut and of course some bananas! Dip the bananas into the melted chocolate, and roll in the coconut flakes, and serve! That’s it, no seriously, it is! If you’re feeling super creative, you can even give your little ghostie bananas different chocolate faces! Bet you’re thinking this Halloween thing isn't so hard after all, right? Honestly, these are great fun to make, not only for the kids but for you and everyone who dares try one.
Savoury Stuffed Pepper Jacks
Halloween stuffed peppers are a brilliant family meal to make over the Halloween season and are a great way to add a bit more fun to cooking, especially for the kids. Jack O Lantern peppers are not only a great novelty for that Halloween feel but are a really healthy and delicious meal too. (It’s one way to get the kids to eat their veggies!)
Inside them is really up to you and you can let your imagination run wild! They are great as both carrot and pepper stick holders to go with some blood red pepper hummus, or a tasty baked quinoa and spinach filling!
