It’s that time of year again; romance is in the air as we step into wedding season. Although it’s an exciting time, it can get expensive! This is why we’ve created a guide for how to survive the wedding season with some of your savings still intact!
The dreaded strict registry
It’s becoming more and more popular for the bride and groom to provide guests with a wedding registry to select gifts from. Some people know exactly what they want … and that can include a £400 coffee machine! Whilst you should consider what they have asked for, sometimes a non-specified gift can stand out from the crowd. Why not surprise and delight the happy couple with a personalised gift, a restaurant booking at their favourite place or a luxury hamper for them to enjoy together whilst reminiscing over their special day? However, if you absolutely have to stick to their gift list, make sure you check it out early. This will give you more options and more price points to pick from.
Everyone understands that the wedding season can be expensive, just remember the happy couple will value your presence more than your presents. However if you are looking to get them something extra special, why not team up with some other guests? By each putting a set amount in, together you can get something with the ‘wow factor’ that you wouldn’t have been able to afford individually.
If you’ve searched your wardrobe and still have nothing to wear and you have no budget to splash out on a different outfit for each wedding, take a breath! You have a couple of options; ask a friend the same size if they have anything you can borrow for the occasion. Or buy one plain outfit that you can accessorise in different ways to make it look completely different every time. Remember to check the bride’s colour scheme; you don’t want to turn up in the same outfit as the bridesmaids.
If you have to fly to the wedding – take a look at price comparison sites as soon as possible to get the best deals. If you need to drive once you get there, pre book a hire car or taxi to avoid any nasty surprises that you hadn’t budgeted for. If you are travelling by train, see if there are any other guests doing the same and save with a group ticket; or if driving, car share and split the petrol money.
Consider staying at a different hotel
While the bride and groom can often secure a block of rooms at a cheaper rate at their chosen hotel, look at other options in town. Just remember to take into account any transportation expenses you may incur if you stay away from the main venue.
