Plush Chocolates “Fabulous and Fair” was founded 4 years ago by Jenny Silverthorne-Wright and Sarah Hobbs who had previously worked together at Oxfam.
Inspired by a shared love of chocolate and desire to improve the lives of people through fair and ethical trade, Sarah and Jenny have established a brand of chocolates that offers something for everyone – from organic premium Belgian chocolate assortments, to handmade English truffles, sumptuous seasonal gifts and keepsakes, interesting and unusually flavoured chocolate treats and an array of children’s novelties.
Made by skilled artisans in Belgium and the UK, all Plush Chocolates are made using the best Fairtrade ingredients, such as cocoa beans from the Dominican Republic, Peru and Ghana, and Fairtrade sugar from Paraguay. Carrying the Fairtrade mark on all their products, customers can be certain that the Fairtrade ingredients used by Plush Chocolates have helped producers in developing countries get a better deal from international trade, helping them to build a more positive, sustainable, dignified future. And Plush packaging is ethical too, with trays made from biodegradable corn starch, and handmade gift boxes made by Fair Trade producer groups in the mountains of Indian Kashmir.
Some lines are also organic and gluten free and most are suitable for vegetarians.

At Claire’s Handmade, my chef husband Michael and I make a selection of quality preserves, chutneys, relishes and other condiments. We have won numerous Great Taste Awards and other accolades for our traditionally-made products. All products are free from artificial colours, flavours and preservatives.
One way or another Michael and I have always been involved in the catering industry; from a pub in Cumbria, to an hotel in Cornwall, and then back up to Cumbria. Over those years, we were often complimented on the jams and chutneys we made and served in our restaurants. The arrival of our children prompted the sale of our Cornish hotel and the move back up to Cumbria. Upon our return, we began “Claire's Handmade” in our family kitchen using our Rayburn and my mother's treasured Aga jam pan, selling our products at Farmers' Markets and local shows.
Ever increasing demand for our traditionally made products forced a decision to move the business into dedicated premises with a purpose-built kitchen. Since then, business has continued to go from strength to strength and we are pleased to say we now have a small team working with us. We have won numerous Great Taste Awards, Best Overall Preserve in the North West for our Beetroot Chutney with Fresh Ginger and 'Lake District Life Food Heroes Award'.
