The Henley Royal Regatta is definitely something to get excited about. Whether you are a regular regatta attendee or visiting for the first time, the five day event attracts thousands of visitors to watch over 200 races. Expect to see a range of rowing abilities including Olympians, international crews and novices’ as they race to the finish line.

First held in 1839, the Henley Royal Regatta traditionally takes place along the River Thames. The length of the course is 1 mile 550 yards long, so you’re sure to catch a glimpse of the action whichever enclosure you are situated in.

Did you know this year’s Henley Royal Regatta has received a record number of entries? 629 crews have entered, beating the previously held record of 552 entries from 1998. 165 international entries will race this year, meaning that 27 nations will be in represented at the event.

Be sure to check the dress code for your designated enclosure. Some have an enforced strict dress code, so make sure you stand out from the crowd for all the right reasons! Take note ladies, as there is a long standing tradition for you to wear dresses or skirts with a hemline below the knee. You will simply not get admitted wearing trousers, shorts, jeans or divided skirts. It’s customary for ladies to wear hats, so you don’t need to wait for another wedding to purchase your next head piece!  Gentlemen must wear either lounge suits, or jackets or blazers with flannels, and a tie or cravat.
