With more time than ever being spent at home this year and Winter well and truly on it’s way, we’re sure that a little hot chocolate indulgence is what’s needed to boost our spirits until Christmas celebrations can begin.
To fully appreciate a hot chocolate to its full potential then we feel that elevation is key! Whether you plan to enjoy alone or with a tin of biscuits/ a generous slice of toasted pantone, it’s really all about what’s in the mug. Here are a few of our favourites this winter,
If you’re looking to entertain a household full of hot-chocolate lovers then a full-blown hot chocolate station is a must! Whether you grab things straight from the cupboard or carefully present in your best Christmas china the possibilities are endless. We think mini marshmallows are essential, along with chocolate sprinkles and whipped cream. Other options include melting hot chocolate bombs, candy-cane stirring sticks, mini-chocolate chips, crushed peppermints or a dusting of cocoa.
To further spice up your drink, why not try adding some ginger, nutmeg or cinnamon, alternatively stir in a touch of cardamom or chili powder for a real kick. Another way of adding depth of flavor to your drink is to stir in a spoon of smooth peanut butter or hazelnut spread. Syrups are another great way of boosting flavour, caramel and honey add extra sweetness or you could try adding a shot of espresso to keep the coffee loving adults happy.
Another options for adults only is to add a touch of alcohol, Irish cream is a classic although cognacs, amaretto or even a dash of cherry liqueur add a real depth to the drink.
If you wanted to pre-prepare the hot chocolate then slow cookers are great – perfect for returning back to after a crisp winters walk. Simply add broken up chocolates bars, milk and double cream to a slow cooker and heat on low for approximately 2 hours, stirring half an hour before serving.
