Spring has arrived and Easter is just around the corner! Preparations have begun and the Spicers of Hythe team are embracing the feelings of enthusiasm and optimism, we’re hoping that people all over the UK have the best possible time this Easter. Easter is the most important holiday in the Christian calendar. The week of Easter starts on Palm Sunday, which represents the day Jesus arrived in Jerusalem and was welcomed with palm branches. On Good Friday, Christians commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, and special services are held in church. Easter Sunday celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ and for those who are not religious, the day generally celebrates rebirth and salutes spring. Rabbits and hares are generally associated with fertility, therefore the Easter bunny naturally symbolises rebirth. At Easter, many children wake up to countless chocolate Easter eggs, left for them by the Easter bunny. The Easter eggs are a symbol of spring and new life and celebrations often consist of hunts for these hidden chocolate eggs. Competitions are held enthusiastically all over the UK and many other countries, the main focus of the hunt is to find as many Easter eggs as possible; the person with the most at the end of the hunt wins. Hot cross buns are cooked on Good Friday, symbolising the cross. Another tradition of the Easter holiday is Morris dancing, in which men dress up in costumes with hats, ribbons and bells around their ankles. The men dance through streets, carrying inflated pigs bladders at the end of sticks, trying to tap women on the head; supposedly bringing them luck.
