The summer holidays are well underway! It’s great for children to have a six-week break from school, but some of you may be struggling to think up ways to help them beat the boredom. Don’t worry – there are plenty of ways to have fun with the whole family, without breaking the bank! Here’s a list of our top suggestions.
Hold a sports day in your garden
If it’s a sunny day, encourage your children to get active (and sociable) by taking part in a sports day. All you need to do is arrange some sporty activities to play in the garden, such as rounders or an egg and spoon race. While you watch, you could even enjoy a nice cold drink with the grown-ups – a perfect summer’s day!
Go for a picnic
If you live near the woods, beach or country park, you’ve got lots of opportunities to take your family on a free day out! Why not bring a picnic to eat while enjoying your natural surroundings? Our range of picnic hampers are suitable for the whole family, and can be found here.
Go on an adventure
If suggesting going for a walk gets an unenthusiastic response, try getting creative to encourage your little ones to venture outside. Pack up a picnic, venture off on a trail and set your children tasks to complete; such as finding certain plants, spotting wildlife and collecting interesting things on your path or why not take along your bikes or a ball.
Cook up a storm
With six weeks off school, we fear you’ve already faced a rainy day or two! What better way to conquer being stuck inside, than cooking up a feast for everyone to enjoy? You could even set your children a challenge; to open up a Spicers of Hythe hamper and get creative! Our popular Chocolicious hamper is a firm favourite with children, thanks to the chocolates, cookies, fudges and other little treats inside.
